A Shocking Allegation: Neighbor Charged for Shooting Family Cat!

Written by on July 25, 2025

The quaint community of Beech Grove is reeling after a shocking event involving a pet cat named Oreo. Jonathan Mosier has been charged with Killing a Domestic Animal after allegedly shooting the beloved feline, igniting outrage within the neighborhood. It’s a touchy subject when pets are involved, especially when they’re considered part of the family. Seriously, who shoots a cat? If only Mosier had a cat toy instead of a semiautomatic pistol on hand!

The incident unfolded when Oreo’s owner noticed the cat in the alley right before hearing a loud bang—classic horror movie vibes, anyone? Witnesses quickly discovered Oreo wounded, and things took a turn when Mosier initially claimed he’d used a pellet gun in self-defense. However, he later confessed that it was actually a semiautomatic pistol he’d used. Prosecutor Ryan Mears, who knows how to drive the point home, stressed that pets are far more than just animals—they’re “beloved members of our families.” Amen to that!

With penalties going up to 2.5 years in prison for a Level 6 felony, it’s clear that the law doesn’t take this lightly either. Where’s the self-defense in that situation, though? Can’t we all just agree to be kind to our neighbors—and their pets? It seems some people still haven’t learned the life rule: if you can’t handle the heat, don’t bring a weapon into the kitchen—especially if a cat’s in the room!
